4101The NISMO PlayStation® GT Academy continued its legacy of unearthing real racing talent from the world of PlayStation®’s Gran Turismo game yesterday when an all-gamer line-up finished the 2015 Dubai 24 Hours race in second position in the top Pro-Am class, a stunning fifth overall.

Competing in the full race-spec 550bhp Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in the prestigious international race was the ultimate prize for four GT Academy 2014 winners - Gaëtan Paletou (France), Ahmed Bin-Khanen (Saudi Arabia), Ricardo Sánchez  (Mexico) and Nicholas Hammann (USA). The impressive result comes after only three months of intensive training in GT Academy’s cutting-edge Driver Development Programme. The new drivers were joined in the race by 2013 GT Academy Germany winner, Florian Strauss – the team’s ‘professional’ with a full 18-months of racing experience.
The tenth running of the Dubai 24 Hours was the first taste of international racing for the latest crop of GT Academy champions and the first time that the gamer-to-racer competition’s winners have raced in Dubai in the premier A6 category. The gamers proved once again to be up to the challenge putting in a disciplined, controlled, mature and, most importantly, quick performance to take to the podium. They were only beaten in the Pro-Am class by a team that included two professional drivers, one of whom was GT Academy judge Rob Barff.
The ‘veteran’ Strauss had qualified the #23 car 14th overall and first in the Pro-Am class on Thursday and it was down to him to make Friday’s race start in a packed grid of 95 cars. Strauss handed over to European winner Gaëtan Paletou before Middle East winner Ahmed Bin-Khanen took the car into Dubai’s dusk. International winner Ricardo Sánchez and North American champion Nick Hammann raced their first stints in the darkness of the 5.39km circuit.
The GT Academy team’s fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout the night with some unlucky timing on driver changes and a couple of drive-through penalties costing them time. But when the sun came up, Nick handed over to Florian who put in a charge and took the car to P2 in class, fifth overall. Gaëtan consolidated the position handing over to Ricardo with a five-lap buffer over their nearest rivals. The team orders then came through to bring the #23 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 home safely and, fittingly, it was senior partner Florian Strauss who took the chequered flag in the fourth 24-hour race of his 18-month motorsport career.

Dubai is a major step towards professional racing for GT Academy winners. The race allows them to show off the skills first displayed on the Gran Turismo® game for PlayStation®3 and then honed by top experts in driving, race craft, fitness and psychology on the comprehensive, fast-track GT Academy Driver Development Programme. Those that display the right speed, aptitude and potential may be lucky enough to be invited to become NISMO Athletes, joining the likes of Strauss, Jann Mardenborough and Lucas Ordoñez as key components in Nissan’s burgeoning motorsport programme.
Darren Cox, Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, NISMO added: “What a performance. Twenty four hour races are generally a rollercoaster of drama and excitement combined with severe fatigue. However, it is testament to the professionalism of the team, the reliability and speed of our car and the thorough preparation of our drivers that we have come through this event relatively unscathed and with a highly impressive result. It speaks volumes that the team brought out three tonnes of spare parts and will take the same three tonnes back home with them!
“Through taking the natural talent these guys show in their gaming and adding NISMO’s real-world racing knowhow, GT Academy continues to unearth and develop some very exciting drivers in an incredibly short space of time. These guys have all done a great job in Dubai and GT Academy continues to give us the tough, but welcome, challenge of having access to so many talented drivers as our racing programme grows. My thanks, as always, to the hugely professional team that make GT Academy happen and special mention, after a gruelling 24 Hours, to Bob Neville and the Nissan GT Academy Team RJN.”
“Each year we see more and more success stem from GT Academy which has seen over five million people pursue their dreams of racing cars through PlayStation,” said Penrose Tackie, Senior European Brand Manager from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “GT Academy really is making history and it is always incredibly satisfying to witness how it has already changed the lives of these Gran Turismo gamers. They did a great job here and everybody involved in the project should be very proud.”

470Four winners of Nissan GT Academy 2014 will race as one team in this year’s edition of 24 Hours Dubai. The grueling race will be their first international racing experience after winning the GT Academy 2014 challenge in their respective regions. The four 2014 winners will be joined by the winner of GT Academy Germany 2013.

Ahmed Khalid, winner of GT Academy Middle East 2014, will be making his race debut in Dubai, completing his journey from living room gamer to real-life racer when he gets behind the wheel of the GT-R NISMO GT3 as part of the Nissan team. The full line-up includes other regional winners of GT Academy 2014 - Nicolas Hammann from USA, Gaetan Paletou from Pan Europe and Ricardo Sanchez from Pan International, as well as by Florian Strauss, winner of GT Academy Germany 2013.

Samir Cherfan, Managing Director, Nissan Middle East, says: “The fact that Ahmed Khalid, a winner of the GT Academy in 2014, will be taking part in such a prestigious event as the 24 Hours at the Dubai Autodrome is a source of great pride to us. Nissan’s GT Academy keeps developing the champs for a successful career in motorsports and we are excited to see the dreams of those four gamers coming true.

“Nissan is committed to supporting motorsport and has been pushing the boundaries of innovation within this industry for a long time. To be able to transform a gamer into a professional racer on the track is unique and exciting experience.” he added.

At the 24 Hours of Dubai, for the first time GT Academy graduates will be competing in a full race spec Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3. The racing car retains the core attributes of the road-going GT-R. As the ‘GT’ in its name suggests, one of those objectives is to provide an exciting-yet-comfortable driving experience no matter what the road or weather conditions; while the other objective refers to the ‘R’ in its name, to deliver exhilarating high performance derived from race car technology.

“It has been always my dream to become a racing driver, and thanks to the Nissan GT Academy Challenge I’ll be behind the wheel with the Nissan team in the 24 Hours of Dubai. As my first international race, I want to put in a big one for the team. The whole experience, from the sofa in the living room playing games to the international finals at Silverstone to lining up on the grid in the great race in Dubai is life-changing for me” says Khalid.

Finalists of the GT Academy 2014 race camp were judged at Silverstone – UK, where Ahmed Khalid claimed the Middle East’s title.

Over a six-day period competitors received intense and in-depth instruction on all aspects of motor racing. Vehicles they were exposed to included three of the finest, the GT-R, 370Z NISMO and 370Z.

“I didn’t have any experience as a racing driver so the race camp at Silverstone was tough physically and mentally. But it was invaluable and I hope to bring the skills I learnt to Dubai Autodrome in my debut international race,” says Khalid.

Additionally, the Nissan Nismo athletics coaches applied extensive preparations on the team and will be on hand to assist the drivers in any area necessary during the race.

“There is so much more than simply getting behind the wheel and driving fast. There’s fitness, mental toughness and self-belief, diet, knowledge of the technology that makes up the vehicles and much more. What takes place off the track is as important as what happens on it,” says Martin Poole, one of the coaches.

For nearly 80 years, Nissan has been pushing the boundaries of innovation within the Motorsports industry. Ever since its grassroots the Datsun NL-75 won at the Japanese Tamagawa Speedway in 1936, Nissan has developed some of the most recognized racing cars to have ever graced the track. Nissan’s global recognition came later in 1964 when it showcased its first ‘Skyline GT’ in Germany, which then went on to overtake a Porsche in one lap during the Japan Grand Prix.

The success has continued with the domination of the Nissan GT-R of Japan’s prestigious Super GT series. The 2014 championship was won by Ronnie Quintarelli and Tsugio Matsuda in the number 23 Motul Autech Nissan GT-R. Also in 2014 Nissan made history when the Nissan ZEOD RC became the first car to complete a racing lap at the 24 Hours of Le Mans under electric power alone.

The Dubai 24 Hours event is both a sports car and touring car automobile endurance race held annually at the Dubai Autodrome. The event is open to both professional and semi-professional teams and is the highlight of the Middle East racing calendar.

There are local competitors from the UAE and throughout the Gulf plus a host of international teams, particularly from Europe. Race will be staged at the Dubai Autodrome January 8-10, 2015.

Samsung & FMP celebrate the winners of ‘Win Your Dream with the Future’ campaign

41Samsung Electronics Co., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, Ltd and Future Modern Products (FMP) – a major distributor of Samsung mobiles in Saudi Arabia and a subsidiary of United Matbouli Group (UMG), celebrate with the winners of the “Win Your Dream with FMP” online campaign at an event held on Tuesday at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah.

Engineer Mohammad Ali Matbouli, CEO of Future Modern Products, proudly said that “making 14 lucky contestants the winners of our nationwide online campaign is overwhelming. We are very happy to have witnessed this high participation rate which has proven that FMP is very keen on delivering the highest quality customer service.”

FMP has launched a special promotional campaign under the theme “Win Your Dream with the Future” – a campaign where FMP has surpassed the limits of reality in order to achieve the dreams of its customers – holders of the golden warranty cards. These cards entitle their holders to avail of exclusive privileges and benefits and the program is the first of its kind in the Middle East.

Besides this, an attractive gift draw scheme has also been introduced under which the customers can win mega prizes including several prizes, such a premium car, a 1 carat diamond ring, a trip to London to attend a Chelsea Club match, a trip to a famous theme park in Europe and one of 10 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 handsets.

Wael Zain, Head of Marketing of Future for Modern Products, said: “We aim to answer each customer call and inquiry. The creation of our golden warranty program has received an overwhelming response, and the extension of this program with new features is a testament of our commitment to continuously provide not only a comprehensive range of Samsung smartphones but also offer unmatched benefits that inspire value and trust among our stakeholders in Saudi Arabia.”

The month-long campaign last December was aimed at offering an opportunity to all those who purchased Samsung Note 3 or any other Samsung Smartphones from the company’s branches in the Kingdom to participate.

Participation was very easy whereby it only took registration to the Golden Warranty through FMP’s Facebook fan page ( https://www.facebook.com/fmp4mobiles) whereby participants only had to subscribe and write their dream on the wall. And by that, FMP will close another successful and prosperous year marked by making its customers’ dreams and aspirations come true.

The premium car winner, AlMoubarak Eisa Mohammad, expressed his highest gratitude and deepest thanks as he couldn’t “believe that this is a dream come true.”

FMP is one of Samsung’s largest mobile distributors in the Kingdom. It is one of the leading companies in the Saudi market and one of the most trusted, as evidenced by their “Golden Warranty” which has received wide spread acclaim since 2012.
