Mafraq Hospital launches clean hands campaign

news47The campaign targets Mafraq Hospital staff, patients, and the Abu Dhabi community, especially children

Abu Dhabi: Mafraq Hospital yesterday launched a year-long hand hygiene awareness campaign entitled “Clean Hands Save Lives”.

The campaign targets Mafraq Hospital staff, patients, and the Abu Dhabi community, especially children. The educational initiative reinforces the importance of one of the simplest methods of preventing infection — hand washing.

Running for a full year, peak activities will take place in July and August, and in October to coincide with Global Hand Washing Day on October 15.

Mascot created

The hospital has created a hand hygiene mascot, Habib the Hand, designed to attract and engage children while communicating the benefits of hand hygiene. The mascot will educate and play with patients and their families in the children’s ward of the hospital.

“The Clean Hands Save Lives campaign is a crucial part of patient safety at Mafraq Hospital,” said John Nickens, CEO, Mafraq Hospital. “To really drive the message home, we have focused on creating a program that is cheerful, lighthearted, colourful and also educational to raise overall awareness of the benefits of hand washing.

“We are starting at the base, right here in the hospital, but also branching out into the wider community. The aim is to transform hand washing with soap from an abstract ‘good idea’ into an automatic behaviour performed in homes, schools, and across communities in the UAE.”

By October 2010, a number of interactive community activities which primarily target families will take place across Abu Dhabi. Educational materials including banners in public bathrooms will be distributed as a constant yet fun reminder of the benefits of hand washing

Abu Dhabi, UAE: 27 July, 2010 – Abu Dhabi’s Mafraq Hospital today launches a year-long hand hygiene awareness campaign entitled ‘Clean Hands Save Lives’. The campaign targets Mafraq Hospital staff, patients, and the Abu Dhabi community, especially children. The educational initiative reinforces the importance of one of the simplest methods of preventing infection - hand washing. Running for a full year, peak activities will take place in July and August 2010, and in October to coincide with Global Hand Washing Day on October 15, 2010.

Mafraq Hospital is owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for all the curative activities of public hospitals and clinics in Abu Dhabi. The hospital is managed by Bumrungrad International, one of the most renowned hospital management companies in Asia, which is recognised internationally for its commitment to patient care and customer service.

The hospital has created a hand hygiene mascot, ‘Habib the Hand’, designed to attract and engage children while communicating the benefits of hand hygiene. The new mascot will educate and play with young patients and their families in the children’s ward of the hospital.

Educational materials including banners in public bathrooms and ‘hands on sticks’ will be distributed as a constant yet fun reminder of the benefits of hand washing.

Hand washing with soap is among the most effective and inexpensive ways to prevent diarrheal diseases (which can include shigellosis, typhoid and cholera) , acute respiratory infections (including SARS and bird flu) , and pneumonia, which, when combined, are responsible for the majority of child deaths .

“Hand hygiene remains the simplest and single most important measure to break the chain of infection and prevent illness,” said Gail Smith, Chief Nursing Officer, Mafraq Hospital. “Making sure you have clean hands is a basic exercise in personal hygiene that most people learn when they are young. Regular hand washing is widely promoted by everybody from mothers to infection preventionists to the World Health Organization as an effective means of keeping microorganisms and illness at bay. The Clean Hands Save Lives campaign is a new initiative, but we will keep it alive and active until we achieve 100 per cent compliance with hand hygiene recommendations.”

Although soap is available in most households around the world, observed rates of hand washing with soap at critical moments range from zero to 34 per cent . Hand washing with soap or sanitizer represents a cornerstone of public health and can be considered an affordable, accessible ‘do-it-yourself‘ vaccine.

Jotun Paints launches ‘LADY’ website in Arabic

Online initiative aims to expand reach and enhance service levels for women customers in the region

July 27, 2010

2208Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has launched an Arabic version of its ‘Jotun Lady’ website (http://lady.jotun.com), following the successful launch of the English website last year and demands for a localised online portal from women customers in the region. The online initiative, which incorporates features to guide users on the latest design trends and help them update the overall appearance of their homes, is aimed at further expanding the website’s reach and enhancing service levels provided for regional customers.  Designed as a new contact point between the ‘LADY’ brand and its target users, the highly interactive portal provides users with extensive product information, advice on colour psychology, as well as on how to decorate their homes.

The Arab world is continually witnessing increasing usage of the Internet, with majority of sectors in the region recording rising online dependence for both information and connectivity. Combining this growing trend with the insight that almost half of the users of the famous online networking site Facebook in the region utilises Arabic as their primary language according to latest reports, Jotun has identified the potential in launching the ‘Jotun Lady’ website in the vernacular.  The website also links to ‘Colour Advisor’, Jotun Paints’ revolutionary, easy-to-use online colour visualisation tool that lets users enjoy a more realistic experience through the extended interactivity and accessibility to more colours.

“Having the website in Arabic allows us to talk to Arab women without any barrier and directly in the language that they feel, think, and use to communicate naturally,” said Trine Finnevolden, General Manager, Jotun Paints UAE. “With the growing affinity of Arab women towards using the Internet, we have been inspired to communicate with them through technology in a platform that will revolve around inspiration, colours and advice for choosing the right paint products and colours, which enables them to make better planning and painting decisions. In addition to the website, we are also looking to launch domain names in Arabic, as a testament to our focus on the regional market.”

Dubai Judicial Institute launches Special Training Program for Judicial Police in line with efforts to develop human capital

Program trains judicial police officers at local government departments on best legal practices, challenge management strategies and decision making using scientific techniques and an integrated approach

July 25, 2010

Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), a leading centre of law studies and judicial training in Dubai, has recently announced the launch of a new program targeting Judicial Police. The program aims to habilitate and qualify judicial police officers working at all federal and local government departments. The move is in line with DJI’s mission to maintain its leading role in promoting legal awareness in society, while reinforcing communication lines with legal and judicial experts and professionals from different sectors of the society to share information, trends and best practices in the legal and judicial systems. These efforts are ultimately geared to help realise the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 and its main objectives in terms of security, justice and safety.

The Judicial Officers Program targets male and female officers who handle cases of infractions committed by individuals or institutions according to control standards based on specific scientific grounds. In addition, the program will help judicial officers obtain skills and abilities required to keep up with local, regional and international challenges. The program also helps the Department of Health, Customs, Roads and Transport Authority, Aviation departments, and the Department of Tourism in establishing deeply rooted standards of the behavioural tendencies that the judicial officers should acquire, which will ensure a consistently high-level of service, promote security and justice, and reinforce the society’s laws.

Commenting on the program, Dr. Judge Jamal Alsumaiti, Director General of DJI, said, “Targeting the judicial police, this new program is another milestone in the continuing success achieved by DJI in adopting professional programs for Dubai Courts, the Ministry of Labour and other leading government bodies. We are pleased with this new level of cooperation as it educates judicial police officers with best practices, legal concepts, and important tools required to develop reasoning, analysis, challenge management and decision-making mechanisms and strategies. Through this initiative, we aim to develop a comprehensive program that will be implemented in Dubai and across the UAE, making the Institute the main reference for such implementations at all local and Federal Government institutions and departments. The Judicial Officers Program will be implemented as a three-part program held three times annually at the institute or hosted by the targeted institution. Under this program, we confirm that we are fully pr
epared to tailor and implement specific programs as requested by any government institution and according to its needs and special requirements.”

Alsumaiti added, “We are looking forward to launch new high-level training initiatives in the near future according to our strategic plan, which is supported by a comprehensive scheme to develop continuous vocational habilitation and training programs that comply with the highest standards. This will enable us to actively contribute in ongoing efforts to enhance the human capital and promote the role of the judicature in achieving comprehensive growth, and substantiating the principles of justice, equity and transparency in the UAE.”

The Dubai Judicial Institute was established in 1996 to help educate and train aspiring judges, prosecutors and their assistants, legal experts and lawyers. DJI also offers habilitation programs for public prosecutors to enhance their efficiency. The Institute provides training and consultancy services to various public and private sector agencies and institutions and conducts local, regional and global research and studies on all areas of law and jurisdiction.

Investors can also inquire about the commercial activities, the number of licenses issued as per activity, the addresses of companies, and the estimated fees for the issuance of a license or its renewal.

Mohammed Shael, CEO, Business Registration and Licensing Division, DED, said: “The new ‘Business Dashboard’ will simplify several licensing procedures and further ease the process of setting up businesses with the minimum of procedures and paperwork. It is in line with our strategic objective of creating an investor-friendly environment and encouraging investors to regard Dubai as their investment destination of choice.”

In line with DED’s objective to make doing business easier, the website will soon introduce other interactive and innovative sections such as the ‘eGuide’ with explanatory video clips of high-sound quality to assist customers in identifying the nature of the service, as well as illustrations that outline the various steps. The ‘eGuide’ service will be available later this year – to complement DED’s move to its new premises in Business Village.
