Jotun Paints launches ‘Jotashield Extreme’ in Egypt

Innovative exterior coating addresses growing local demand for heat-reflective & eco-friendly paints

November 08, 2011

293Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has launched ‘Jotashield Extreme’, a superior exterior paint product in response to the growing demand for heat-reflective and eco-friendly concept. ‘Jotashield Extreme’ uses a revolutionary pigment and advanced binder technology that allow consumers to also select darker shades of colours and still achieve cooler indoor temperature and longer-lasting colours with superior exterior protection. Jotun, which has launched this revolutionary new product across all its dealers in Egypt, has also provided training for the new product at Savoy Hotel in Sharm Al Sheikh, Egypt.

During the launch event, Jotun presented a demonstration showing the use of an Infra Red (IR) thermometer to measure and demonstrate the features of Jotashield Extreme applied on a model house. ‘Jotashield Extreme’ offers twice the heat reflective capabilities of ordinary exterior paint. It provides protection against ultraviolet and near infra-red heat, thus significantly reducing indoor and surface temperatures and consequently driving down energy consumption. It lessens the ‘Urban Heat Island’ (UHI) effect and feature anti-carbonation properties that protect it against chalking, flaking and peeling. The multicolour-tintable ‘Jotashield Extreme’ has low dirt pickup, exceeds GS-11 standards for paint, and can perform effectively for 10 years.

“Jotun has always been known for meeting market needs via innovative and high-quality products. Jotun has also gained a reputation for raising benchmarks in environmentally-friendly production techniques and products within the paint manufacturing industry,” said Mohamed Hashem, Decorative Marketing Manager, El- Mohandes Jotun. “‘Jotashield Extreme’ exemplifies our corporate commitment in improving the environment and we hope that this and other products will inspire others to adopt a more eco-friendly approach to business.”

Jotun Paints spends more than USD 25 million on R&D into developing unique products. The company invested a substantial amount to come up with the innovative properties of ‘Jotashield Extreme’. The product has been subjected to strong external tests from third party independent testing authorities. Tests have shown that structures treated with ‘Jotashield Extreme’ are between 2 to 5 degree centigrade cooler than those applied with normal paint.

“The phenomenon known as UHI, in which metropolitan areas are significantly warmer than their surrounding rural areas, is becoming increasingly common in Egypt and other Middle East countries due to the exponential growth of urban areas in the region. Further, studies have shown that temperatures of urban air domes can be warmer by as much as 4 degrees Celsius than the surrounding countryside. This poses higher air-conditioning costs, additional air pollution due to increased energy production, and acceleration of global warming. Our new eco-friendly, energy-efficient product addresses these issues by virtue of being the only paint in the Middle East that can achieve significant temperature reductions upon application,” concluded Mohamed Hashem.

Jotun Paints to showcase ‘Woodshield’ range across wood industry professionals at ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow 2011’

Leading company to consolidate Middle East market presence and increase volume share with introduction of new ‘True Wood Protection’ brand promise

October 17, 2011

2288Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has revealed that it will be showcasing the ‘Woodshield’ range across the Middle East region’s wood industry professionals during the first ever ‘Abu Dhabi International Wood and Wood Machinery Show,’ which will be held from October 18th to 20th, 2011 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC). The latest line of stains and varnishes are the results of the leading company’s extensive research and development efforts to utilize the latest technology in developing an innovative wood coating product. Jotun’s participation at the pioneering ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ is part of its strategic move to strengthen its regional market presence with the introduction of ‘True Wood Protection’ as its new wood coating brand promise and also help drive in a two per cent increase in volume shares. Jotun’s booth can be found at Stand Number AB2 at Hall 11.

Jotun is currently undertaking key efforts in increasing the awareness about the company’s diverse paint range across the Middle East’s rapidly booming construction industry, reinforcing its position as the number one paint brand. During the event, Jotun will be leveraging the dynamic features of ‘Woodshield’ like longevity, low odour and quick drying time - as part of its move to penetrate the region’s wood coating segment, which has been valued at over USD 126 million. The leading company’s efforts to consolidate its position in the wood coating segment complements a recent report from leading research firm, AMRB, stating that the wood market in total volume for the Middle East is 31.5 million liters or around five per cent of the total paint market. The figures include stains, varnishes and enamels for wood.

“The Middle East has seen an increased demand for wood as a prominent part of commercial and residential interior design, particularly for both utility wooden articles like doors and windows but also for premium interior and exterior wooden decorations,” said Sverre Knudsen, General Manager - Abu Dhabi, Jotun Paints. “Participating at the ‘Abu Dhabi WoodShow’ will give us the opportunity to strengthen and develop new connections. Our aim is to introduce the ‘Woodshield’ range to the professional market and communicate its features, advantages and benefits to the customers.”

‘Woodshield’ is a brand of stains and varnishes suitable for interiors and exteriors. The new range has been specifically formulated to decorate and protect wood outdoors. It has twice the power of regular UV protection and twice the longer performance, because of the Advanced UV absorbers and Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) in the formula. ‘Woodshield Interior’ is formulated for indoor wooden articles and offers strong features like being easy to clean, since the film formed is hydrophobic in nature and its fast drying abilities, made possible with the use of a special quick drying resin. Both ‘Woodshield Interior’ and ‘Woodshield Exterior’ emits low odour, which is the result of using a low odour binder and low odour solvents; have good water resistance; have good flexibility and are heavy metals free.

“Our new ‘Woodshield’ range is the first of its kind in the Middle East market and offers users immense advantages and benefits like strong UV protection, high water resistance and strategic flexibility. This new range of wood coatings is the results of continuous research and development. ‘Woodshield’ not only complements our move to strengthen our market share in region but also reaffirms our commitment to provide our customers with a world class range of products that not only speak of durability but also adds high aesthetic value to the projects they are used in,” concluded Knudsen.

Leading company to leverage new product’s innovative features to further penetrate Middle East region’s USD 126 million wood coatings segment

Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has announced the relaunch of the company’s new and improved ‘Woodshield’ product range. The latest line of stains and varnishes is a result of the company’s extensive research and development efforts to utilize the latest technology in creating an innovative wood coating product. Jotun is now looking towards leveraging ‘Woodshield’s’ dynamic features of longevity, low odor and quick drying time, to further penetrate the region’s  wood coating segment, which is currently valued at over USD 126 million. The company’s efforts to strategically position itself in the region’s wood coatings segment complements a recent report from leading research firm, AMRB, stating that the wood market in total volume for the Middle East is 31.5 million liters or around five per cent of the total paint market. The figures also include other products like stains, varnishes and enamels for wood. Jotun is now looking to consolidate its market share with the introduction of ‘True Wood Protection’ as its new wood coating brand promise and to increase volume shares by at least two per cent.

The re-launched ‘Woodshield’ range of products have been developed to deal with the usual challenges and issues of wood coatings and paints like long drying time; the presence of very strong odors and lack of options in finish. ‘Woodshield Exterior’ is the first wood coating of its kind in the region to use advanced UV absorbers and Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) technology to provide twice the power of UV Protection, which minimizes colour fading and protects wood against cracking, peeling and erosion from sunlight. The new product also provides a protective barrier against harsh weather for longer lasting wood protection. ‘Woodshield Interior’ is a modified urethane alkyd that creates a smooth and tough hydrophobic film that makes for easy cleaning of the wood surface. It has a uniquely formulated quick drying resin, which acts as a fast drying formula and leads to a convenient and quick drying solution - saving time, energy and manpower. Both ‘Woodshield Interior’ and ‘Woodshield Exterior’ possess low odour solvents and low odour binders that give off less odour during and after applications. The two products also offer high water resistance and flexibility. ‘Woodshield Interior’ and ‘Woodshield Exterior’ are free of heavy metals like Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Chromium, Arsenic.

“The re-launch of the new ‘Woodshield’ wood coating product range demonstrates Jotun’s long standing commitment towards providing its customers with products that offer reliability, long life and quality,” said Per Olav Ramstad, Regional Marketing Director, Jotun Paints. “The new range provides users with several advantages as compared to other wood coating products that take hours, even days, before the painting is finally completed. ‘Woodshield’ proves to be the perfect wood coating offering a quicker drying time, less odour and a longer coat life.”

‘Woodshield’ is being offered in three colour ranges that have been developed to provide reliability and high aesthetic value. ‘Golden Sand’ is meant to capture the golden tone of the forest and represents the richness of the woods. ‘Forest Walk’ comes in natural red and green elements that inspire ways to beautify the timber grain. ‘Semi-opaque shades’ attracts inspirations from season change and colours from spring to fall.

“Jotun’s new ‘Woodshield’ range is the first of its kind in the Middle East market and offers  advantages and benefits like strong UV protection, high water resistance and strategic flexibility. This new range of wood coatings not only complements our strategic aim to reinforce our market share in the Middle East market but also demonstrates our efforts to provide our customers with a world class range of products that not only speak of durability but also adds high aesthetic value,” concluded Ramstad.

Jotun Paints empowers consumers in the Middle East through Social Media Networking

Leading paint manufacturer integrates Facebook to revolutionary online colour visualisation tool ‘ColourAdvisor’, helping consumers plan better and make quicker painting decisions

January 26, 2011

2127Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has announced that it has integrated Facebook, one of the world’s leading social media networking sites, to its online colour visualisation tool called ‘ColourAdvisor’ (www.colouradvisor.com). The tool will help consumers in the Middle East plan better and make quicker and better painting decisions for their homes.

Customers can click on the ‘Share on Facebook’ button to share their creations with their friends and family, as wall posts. ‘Email Picture to a Friend’ button meanwhile lets customers email the picture they painted to email addresses of their choice. ‘Find a Jotun Dealer’ button allows customers to locate the nearest Jotun Paints dealer on Google maps. ‘Email Us’ button on the other hand allows customers to send their feedback and comments to Jotun Paints officials.

“’Opinions & Suggestions’ are the two key words when it comes to making a creative painting decision for homes. It is common that when people want to paint their homes, they ask for opinions on wall colours from their friends, relatives, and so on. ‘ColourAdvisor’ lets people visualise different colours on the walls of their homes, and hence we thought it was a good value addition to let them share these ideas,” said Per Olav Ramstad, Regional Marketing Director ME, Jotun Paints.

According to a recent research done by Jotun Paints, consumers in the Middle East are becoming more conscious and more engaged in the decoration or redecoration process of their homes. Thus, colour plays an important role in inspiring individuals into creating a relaxing ambience. Jotun Paints wants to get closer to its customers and follow its customers’ decoration and redecoration process online. In the age of ever-increasing online activities, end users are getting highly interactive on social media platforms such as Facebook, which is precisely what Jotun aims to leverage through its latest innovation.

Jotun Paints is providing end users with options to share their creativity with their family and friends. ‘ColourAdvisor’ is a revolutionary easy-to-use online colour visualisation tool, which can also be accessed in more than 1500 outlets across the Middle East. The enhanced software is capable of letting the end-users do a ‘digital paint job’ by uploading a picture of their own rooms and selecting their desired colours. Customers can now enjoy a more realistic experience through superior colour rendering, extended interactivity and accessibility to more colours, thereby making their decision regarding colour choices easier.
