Emirates Gas staff volunteers for ‘Clean up UAE’ campaign

2285Dubai: Volunteers from Emirates Gas, a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), took part in the annual ‘Clean up UAE’ campaign organised by Emirates Environmental Group.

The campaign is aimed at creating awareness amongst the community about local environmental issues with special emphasis on waste management, waste reduction and recycling. It involves various sectors of society including government, corporate, academic and domestic institutions, in an integrated national environmental initiative.

EMGAS also sponsored the participation of students in the Clean-up Campaign from two schools, Al Ghorfa Kindergarten in Fujairah and Sumaya Bint Khayat School in Ajman.

Hesham Ali Mustafa, Senior Director, ENOC Gas Marketing & General Manager – Emirates Gas LLC, said: “This is EMGAS’ third year of participation in the “Clean up UAE” campaign and we are proud of our partnership with Emirates Environmental Group,”

”Taking part in such activities is in line with EMGAS’ objectives of implementing best practices to enhance the quality of life of residents in Dubai and the UAE.” he added.

Last year, more than 20,000 participants joined hands for the ‘Clean up UAE’ campaign across 106 locations in the massive cleanup operation collecting more than 100 tons of waste.

Launched in 2002, ‘Clean Up UAE’ strives to address the most pressing environment challenges of the country, including its high per capita waste generation, water consumption and wastage, and a huge ecological footprint.

For over 37 years, EMGAS has been the leading supplier of LP Gas products and services. EMGAS has undertaken several concerted initiatives to promote a culture of ‘green energy,’ and introduced a range of products that help reduce energy consumption and carbon emission.

Key green products that were launched by EMGAS include “Pro-Power”, a customized gas cylinder, for forklifts, further promoting clean transportation. Another key product is Cutting Edge Gas (CEG), which was introduced following research that industries such as metal cutting and ship building had strong requirements for safe and economical cutting fuel.

Dubai, August 2, 2010: Part of its ongoing safety awareness campaign, Emirates Gas, the largest gas supplier in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, warned more than 1,000 women about the dangers of LPG cylinders. Women were the main focus of the campaign as they are considered the main end users of gas cylinders at home, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Held at the Dubai Ladies Club, the seminar focused on how to use cylinders in a safe way, what to do in case of an emergency, how to contact Emirates Gas and how to avoid accidents. The campaign is part of an Emirates Gas safety drive to educate the public on the importance of implementing proper procedures in the handling, storage and usage of cylinders and complements Dubai Municipality’s gas cylinder safety drive launched earlier this year.

Hesham Ali Mustafa, General Manager of Emirates Gas said: “Safety must be everyone’s highest concern when dealing with cylinders, because a small mishap could lead to a dangerous situation. This campaign arose from a need to make the consumer knowledgeable of the dangers of improperly using an LPG cylinder, especially women. And with Ramadan coming, safety concerns become more important as studies show that households consume more cooking gas during this period.”

The seminar also focused on how to handle and store cylinders. Hesham Ali Mustafa added: “LPG is a safe and convenient fuel for domestic cooking. It can be handled safely, by following certain simple instructions and precautions, such as keeping the cylinder in an upright position on a firm and level surface, never dropping or rolling the cylinder flat, ensuring proper ventilation of the room where the cylinder is located and never exposing or placing the cylinder to direct sunlight or heat.”

Earlier this month, Emirates Gas raised awareness on the safe use of LPG gas cylinders to more than 75 labourers at the Serve U labour camp in Al Quoz, Dubai.

Emirates Gas partners with Dubai Municipality to raise awareness on LPG safety use

286Dubai, July 10, 2010: Emirates Gas, the leading supplier of LPG cylinders in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, recently launched a safety campaign in collaboration with the Public Health and Safety Department of Dubai Municipality, to raise awareness about implementing safety procedures in the handling, storage and usage of LPG cylinders. The two-week long campaign targeted business establishments like restaurants, cafeterias and hotels in Dubai.

The campaign ensured that businesses had special well-ventilated cabinets made of un-inflammable substances that were provided for gas cylinders and that no other hazardous or flammable substances are stored. Emirates Gas also ensured that fire-extinguishers were easily accessible in case of an emergency and pipelines and valves were serviced and maintained regularly.

Hesham Ali Mustafa, General Manager, Emirates Gas said that the company is committed to strengthening the use of safety requirements amongst its customers, “Safety first is our motto at Emirates Gas. LPG cylinders, which is one of the most popular fuels for cooking can also be very hazardous if not installed within certain standards. We believe that educating our customers is vital to reduce the incidence of fires and accidents due to gas leakage which is why it is important that the properties and safe handling are understood and applied.”

Eng. Sultan Al Suwaidi, Head of the Public Safety section at the Health and Public Safety Department, Dubai Municipality said, “Gas distribution companies, restaurants, cafeterias, public kitchens, and bakeries were targeted to avoid gas cylinders explosion due to misuse. It is also part of the daily department activities to ensure the implementation of safety procedures for gas cylinders.”

Emirates Gas regularly trains distributors and their employees in safe distribution, transportation and storage of LPG cylinders.
