As these students were offered employment immediately upon completion of their internships, they are now based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hence, they could not come to attend the annual graduation ceremony held in September in Maastricht so we are here to present their diplomas. Through our international internship programmes we aim to increase global understanding and global competence among our students that helps produce global managers.

These are an essential part of student and faculty engagement and development too.”Ms Giesbers continued, “Internships allow students to gain practical experience by working alongside professionals. One of the major goals of our graduation programmes is to offer a variety of internships to students to gain experience with some of the finest hotels.  Aside for placements in The Netherlands we send our students for internships to Belgium, France, Spain, UK, Italy, Germany, South Africa, UAE, China, Malaysia and Thailand. It gives them the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in real-life situations.

We have two mandatory training periods of 5 to 6 months each in a four-year-course, during which students work in the hotel industry. This hands-on experience allows students to make better career decisions following their graduation. Companies such as HMH – Hospitality Management Holdings - that has 33 hotels operational in the Middle East and Africa, offer fantastic internship opportunities and we are very happy to associate with them.”Present on the occasion was also Mr Michel Noblet, President & CEO, HMH – Hospitality Management Holdings, who is a strong advocate for better-educated work force and on-the-job trainings as the way for the hospitality industry to stay globally competitive.

Aamir Pervez, who is the General Manager of the hotel commented, “The internships at our hotel are carefully chosen by students and relate to their educational programme and future career goals. Our trainings help students to learn the policies, systems and procedures in place for each department they work in. Excellence comes through perseverance.

In fact, it might be a student’s first step into a career with us as was the case with Ms Tingting Guo who was offered a full-time position up on completion of her internship.” Founded in 1950, Maastricht Hotel Management School offers a bachelor degree course of 4 years full time in hospitality management as well as two master’s degree courses of 12 months full time. The first two programmes welcome international bachelor students to apply for selection.

The Hotel School highly appreciates the application of students from the Middle East. The MBA programme is recommended explicitly to hospitality professionals who have been working for several years in the industry around the globe. The training course is centered around the professional profile or skills needed to be a hospitality manager. The institute’s high standards and quality programmes form the basis for a wide range of management functions and opens a world of opportunities for students. MRHE begins construction work on AED3 billion housing project

The Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MRHE) has begun construction work on the AED3 billion housing project in the Al Barsha area of Dubai. The move represents phase 1 of the 252 housing-unit-project being executed jointly with the Arab Tech Construction Company and Parsons and Aref Bin Touq, a construction consultancy firm.

According to Mr. Sami Gargash, Acting Managing Director of the MBRHE, the take-off in the project is in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who is highly committed to providing good living condition for UAE nationals.

He said the execution of the multi-billion Dirham project will be in two phases. “Phase I consists of 110 housing units which will take 21 months to complete, while phase II, which consists of 142 housing units will be completed within 24 months,” he explained.

He said: “The cost of the current project is about AED328 billion. It includes housing units in nine different designs. Each design comprises a ground floor and two storeys. Each floor is made up of either three, four or five bedrooms, a sitting room, dining room, a kitchen, bathrooms, a special room for maid servants and a garage with a capacity to accommodate two cars.”

He pointed out that although the designs look similar to those of the current projects, the bedrooms sitting rooms and kitchen are larger, having take into consideration the observations made by UAE nationals on the old designs.

He added: “In designing the new villas, we took into serious consideration the taste of all the various categories of the beneficiaries, in such a way that every beneficiary would be given the freedom to choose the size and facial design of his house among the lots of designs, which include local, Islamic and Andalusian designs.”

He further explained that the houses have all the elements of beauty, health and leisure and the designs take into consideration the requirements of people with special needs, as they have wide doors and sloppy floors to facilitate the smooth entry and exit of wheel chairs being used by people with special needs.

Meanwhile, the beginning of the project marks the take-off in the construction of 2,300 housing unit in various areas of the Emirate of Dubai. The construction of 325 housing units is expected to take-off soon in the Oud Al Mutena area, while the construction of another 504 housing units will also take-off soon in the Al Warqa area.
