2009 Capital of Islamic Culture - Baku

As the capital, the largest city, and the largest port of Azerbaijan and all Caucasus, Baku is home to nearly two million people, of whom 95% are Muslim. Located on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea, Baku is one of the oldest and biggest cities in the East. This year, having recently been designated by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference as the 2009 Capital of Islamic Culture, Baku has organised a years worth of concerts, festivals and conferences to embrace its Muslim heritage. Flights from Dubai to Baku cost approximately AED 700 - 1,000.
