OCZ Launches Firmware Enhancement For Vertex 4 Solid State Drives & Introduces New 64GB Capacity

OCZ Launches Firmware Enhancement For Vertex 4 Solid State Drives & Introduces New 64GB Capacity

-Offering Additional Value to Customers by Increasing Sequential Read & Write Performance-

2172New Delhi, 12th May, 2012 - OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCZ), a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs), memory modules, and power supplies for computing devices and systems for computing devices and systems, introduces release candidate firmware v1.4RC, which dramatically improves the performance of its Vertex 4 SATA 3.0 Series SSDs. Most notably, v1.4RC nearly doubles sequential write performance for lower capacity models, significantly boosts sequential read performance at low queue depths, and improves general performance under real-world workloads comprising mixed reads and writes.

Despite already achieving breakthrough levels of performance with its flagship Vertex 4, OCZ has taken aggressive strides to further distance itself from the competition and to maintain its undisputed leadership in SSD technology. Compared to Vertex 4’s original firmware version v1.3, v1.4RC more than doubles sequential write performance of the 128GB model and boosts the 256GB model from 380MB/s to 465MB/s. These dramatic gains were achieved through proprietary algorithms which orchestrate the sequence of physical NAND programming operations to ensure that each NAND device is optimally utilized at all times. For the mainstream user, entry-level capacities of Vertex 4 can now achieve nearly the same sequential write performance as the industry-leading 512GB model at a mere fraction of the cost.

OCZ has also responded to customer requests for higher sequential read performance at lower queue depths. To offset performance degradation resulting from the host not utilizing NCQ or higher queue depth, firmware v1.4RC has incorporated a predictive read algorithm which anticipates and responds to commands not yet issued by the host. In addition, v1.4RC performs more consistently under mixed read-write workloads, increases general stability, and improves compatibility with less-prevalent host chipsets.

“OCZ strives to deliver new features and superior performance with our premium Vertex 4 solid state drives by continuing to enhance our firmware and making those improvements available to all our valued customers,” said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology. “With firmware v1.4, OCZ continues to fulfill its promise of delivering the most innovative, and highest performing SSDs on the market, regardless of file and data type, I/O workload, queue depth, and drive capacity.”

The v1.4RC firmware upgrade will be available today for customers via the company’s website, and Vertex 4 SSDs will soon begin shipping to resellers with final v1.4 firmware in the coming weeks. In addition to the release of the enhanced firmware, OCZ is also broadening the award-winning Vertex 4 Series with the introduction of a new 64GB capacity which is ideal for mobile applications, boot drives, and customers requiring high speed at a more affordable price point. Vertex 4 64GB drives will become available over the next few weeks through the company’s global channel. Threats Prevention High on the e-Business Security Conference’s Agenda

Threats Prevention High on the e-Business Security Conference’s Agenda

2131Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, May 9, 2012: I(TS)2, a Saudi-based specialized IT Security company, announced that several high profile global IT security experts had come together to address various aspects of information security, threats and concerns faced by businesses in Saudi Arabia at the second e-Business Security Conference 2012 held in Riyadh and Jeddah on May 6, 2012 and May 8, 2012 respectively. With its focus being ‘Prevention of Modern Threats’, the conference highlighted the latest cyber security threats  and addressed what organizations could do to prevent these threats. Global security experts also shared their knowledge and expertise in preventing hacking on the web application layer as well as securing networks and databases.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dimitrios Petropoulos, CEO of I(TS)2 said, “Saudi is one of the fastest growing countries in the region in terms of information and communications technology spending, which reached US$7.2 billion in 2010 and is expected to touch US$12.2 billion in 2015 according to the CITC IT Report 2010. Even though currently Saudi is not ranked amongst the top countries in the adoption of cyber security, it is surely witnessing a rapid increase in the number of businesses investing in the latest technologies to combat internal and external threats. To increase awareness of modern threats and to share insights and global case studies with our customers, we decided to host the second edition of e-Business Security Conference once this year. The event was a success as we had some of the best security experts sharing their global experiences, best practices and case studies with local Saudi businesses.”

Global security solutions companies such as Guidance Software, SafeNet, Tripwire and Websense participated at the event as partners. IT security experts such as Jonathan Hawes of AKJ Associates, Dennis Oommen of Guidance Software, Sébastien Pavie of SafeNet, Jason Clark of Tripwire, Roy Duckles of Tripwire and Amjad Khader of Websense to name a few shared their experiences on various aspects of cyber security at the conference. The event also brought together customers from all industry sectors including Government, Finance, Education, Semi-Government, Services, and Utilities.

“Events such as e-Business Security Conference 2012 are vital in helping companies understand what shifts are happening in the threat landscape, and therefore where they need to realign their project objectives and methods to achieve the results they desire. It is also a great forum to get different perspectives as to how to deal with modern threats. Very often unorthodox approaches are successful in thwarting newer generation threats,” said Mr.Dennis Oommen, Sr. Regional General Manager, Guidance Software, Inc.

“Whilst the need for well laid out strategy and ensuring IT security policies is paramount, the truth is that even though many organisations have the right strategies in place, they lack and will continue to lack in the area of skilled talent to manage the day to day operations surrounding these policies. One possible approach to adopt is to assume the organization will be massively compromised and work from there. Another critical factor is that companies are increasingly becoming custodians of more and more customers’ information,” Mr. Oommen added.

At the conference, security experts pointed out that even though the Middle East region faces the very same cyber threats that the rest of the developed world faces, it has fared much better than most other regions economically and hence it is becoming a ‘natural’ target for commercially motivated cybercrime. The recent social upheavals have only brought to the surface the potential power of the connected populace. Highly sophisticated and successful APT’s such as Stuxnet have gained prominence because of this region. A combination of such factors will inevitably lead to an exponential escalation of the risk associated with such internal and external threats.

“Nearly all data-stealing attacks today involve the web and/or e-mail. And many increasingly use social engineering to take advantage of the human element as the weakest link. Since the current generation of attackers use multiple data points and threat vectors to target their victims, only a solution that understands the entire threat lifecycle and combines data from each phase can protect against them. Traditional defenses just aren’t working any more. Organizations need real-time defences with multiple detection points that deeply analyze both the inbound content of each website and email as well as the outbound transmission of sensitive data,” said Stephen Grey, Websense Regional Director, Middle East.

According to Mr. Sebastien Pavie, Director of SafeNet Middle East more and more business are moving to online trading and internet banking thus increasing the requirement for proper security compliance and solutions. “In 2011, data breaches grew exponentially across the world as well as in the Middle East, 45% of which involved the theft of authentication credentials, an alarming figure. Unfortunately a large number of companies still rely on username and password to give access to their end-users, and this information is not difficult for hackers to get. In fact 67% of data thefts were perpetrated through guessable credentials.”

“The good news is that cyber security is now appearing more and more on the boardroom agenda. We reckon that private cloud, network upgrade and DR projects in both the government and commercial sectors will keep driving the demand for High Speed Encryption. New eGovernment and eBanking service initiatives spreading fast across the region are also definitely contributing to such demand. Cloud-deployment offers an array of significant benefits to enterprise ranging from improved IT resource management to more effective strategic and operational initiatives. However, without the ability to safeguard virtually-deployed data assets these benefits could easily turn into liabilities.” Mr. Pavie concluded.

A new 58 Watt LED Panel Light, the GL-PL0312 From GlacialLight

A new 58 Watt LED Panel Light, the GL-PL0312 From GlacialLight

- Compact, efficient, long life LED panels for lower cost interior lighting -

212408 May 2012 – GlacialLight, a division of experienced global technology leader, GlacialTech Inc., has launched the GL-PL0312 LED Panel Light, another outstanding addition to the popular GlacialLight’s range of LED lighting products.

This high efficiency 58W LED panel is an ideal replacement for older, less-efficient light sources. Its key advantages are surprisingly low energy and maintenance costs, thanks to LED technology which brings greatly reduced power costs, long life, and low heat. The GL-PL0312 panel is the simple choice for any location that requires area illumination and could benefit from lower energy costs and more satisfied employees, visitors, customers, and guests.

The GL-PL0312 panels bring area illumination on demand with their broad 120° beam angle. Their pleasant natural illumination is great for all interior lighting applications. Typical applications for the 1195mm long by 295mm wide panels include hospitals, airports, offices, supermarkets, stores, and most other commercial, and retail locations. Each compact panel is only 13mm deep, minimizing architectural and interior design impact, and uses sturdy but lightweight materials to achieve a weight of just 4.1kg.

The GL-PL0312’s long lifetime LED technology slashes maintenance and replacement costs, with a rated service life of 30,000 hours. Saving money for customers has been a key goal in the design of this product. LEDs are much more energy efficient than traditional light sources, so the GL-PL0312  panels offer a luminous efficacy of up to 66, even as they reduce power usage. This efficient energy conversion also cuts waste heat, keeping indoor temperatures under control to deliver noticeable reductions in cooling and air conditioning costs.

Three color variants are available. The warm white GL-PL0312-WW panel fills internal spaces with warm bright illumination with a color temperature of 3000K and a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 80. The natural white GL-PL0312-NW provides balanced natural illumination at 4000K with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 80. The cool white GL-PL0312-CW achieves maximum luminous efficiency of 66 lumens per watt with its cool 5700K illumination and a CRI of 70 or higher.

The GL-PL0312 panels accept a wide range of AC voltages – from 100 volts to 240 volts – making them suitable for a variety of operating environments worldwide.

This product does not contain mercury or other hazardous chemicals. GlacialLight protects customers and the environment by making the GL-PL0312 completely RoHS compliant. The GL-PL0312 does not emit harmful UV or IR radiation, making it far more eco-friendly than traditional lighting fixtures and technologies. Even product packaging is recyclable.
