Mohammed Al Mojil Group completes 200m high fixed flare derrick erection

471Mohammed Al Mojil Group (MMG), one of Saudi Arabia’s largest construction companies, has recently completed erection of a 200m high fixed flare derrick as part of the Yasref Refinery, Yanbu. The derrick which was constructed without any lost time safety incidents is one of the world’s tallest fixed flare derricks and was completed one month ahead of schedule. The 00m flare derrick is part of the mechanical works of the Interconnecting Systems Package which was awarded to the MMG in May 2011. The Refinery will process 400,000 bpd of Arabian heavy crude oil for the production of ultra-clean transportation fuels and high-value refined products for both international and domestic markets. The extreme height of the flare derrick satisfies the Royal Commission environmental regulations, rigorous pollution prevention criteria and provides for a safer working environment when the refinery is operational.

Erection of the flare derrick was completed in 36 weeks, a month earlier than planned and includes 487T of structural steel, 50T LP seal drum, 78T HP seal drum, and 1.27KM of riser pipes. The flare derrick is part of the main SP6 contract which has a contract value of SR 811.5M delivered through approximately 12.75M man-hours at completion; it is one of a number of packages of work under the management of YASREF
