Conclusion of “Developing strategies and strategic planning” workshop in Doha

516The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) concluded the workshop entitled “Developing strategies and strategic planning” that was held from the 17th till the 19th of February in Doha. The training took place at the Organisation’s headquarters and was attended by participants from different GCC countries and Yemen.

GOIC Secretary General Mr. Abdulaziz Bin Hamad Al-Ageel presented certificates to the trainees and highlighted the importance of strategies and strategic planning to successfully complete projects and put institutions on the right track leading to success. He said that this workshop would help participants carry out their tasks by providing them with knowledge and correct foundations for the preparation of a comprehensive and cohesive strategic plan and the development of an executive plan to implement the strategy and further develop it.

Mr. Al-Ageel stated: “This workshop is among GOIC’s endeavours aiming at building national capacities in the area of developing strategies and strategic planning in order to help decision makers develop correct policies boosting Gulf economies.”

The training was attended by professionals in charge of developing, following up and evaluating strategies within ministries of Industry, Economy and Planning and statistics authorities. It was also attended by people in charge of creating industrial data and researchers from the ministries of Industry, Economy, Environment and Planning and a number of private institutions and companies from GCC countries and Yemen.

Dr. Laila Dyab Ishrair, Strategic Planning Consultant at GOIC Secretary General’s Bureau delivered the workshop. She introduced strategic planning and execution of strategies, highlighted concepts related to strategies and strategic planning and provided participants with supporting tools and forms aiming at helping them prepare a strategic plan, execute it and further develop it.

At the end, participants commended the organisers of this workshop that has strengthened their knowledge of concepts related to strategies and strategic planning, in addition to major necessary steps such as: vision, mission, pillars, requirements, values, strategic goals, periodic objectives, gap analysis, strategic planning and performance indicators etc. The trainees were also capable to identify factors of success and failure when it comes to developing strategies.

This workshop is to be followed by a second training entitled “Successful implementation of a strategy to improve an institution’s performance”. It will be organised by GOIC from the 19th till the 22nd of May 2014. Its objective is to gain further benefit from strategic planning and successful execution of strategies.
