FISH markets in the Western Coast have witnessed a remarkable decline in fish prices by about 40 per cent.
Deputy Chairman of the Fishermen Associations in the Western Coast and Head of Fishermen Association in Dibba Fujairah, Suliman Al Khadim cited that fish markets in all cities of the Western Coast witnessed a significant decrease in prices of all types of fish by 40 per cent. She’ri declined from Dhs100 to Dhs60 per kilogramme, Qubab declined from Dhs150 to Dhs70 for one piece, one piece of kufar was sold at Dhs60 instead of Dhs100 and Quash decreased from Dhs50 to Dhs80 per kilogramme.
Khadim attributed the decline in the prices of fish in the area to the instability of weather, increased supply and low demand, in addition to the increase in the number of sea journeys, which brought in large quantities of fish.
The new prices were met with high satisfaction from the consumers, who hoped that they would not be shocked with an unexpected hike in the prices in the next period.
A number of fishermen asked for a doubling of fuel subsidies because of the rise in the prices of diesel.
Khadim urged the concerned authorities to take into consideration the circumstances of the fishermen and to increase subsidies being provided to the fishermen to help them face increasing burdens form one side, and to keep prices of fish stable on the other hand
